Harp Guitars in American Lutherie

Not sure which topic to place this under, so i'll start a new one.
The latest edition of "American Lutherie", the quarterly journal of the Guild of Ameriocan Luthiers (GAL) , Number 99/ Fall 2009, has a lovley picture of the Sullivan/Elliott HG on the cover. Inside are two companion articles by Jeff Elloitt and John Doan about making and playing harp guitars. Included are the plans, with dimensions of the Sullivan/Elliot HG.

Most of the information was presented at a forum at HGG6 last fall, but it's nice to see it in print. All of you HG enthusiasts out there should consider ponying up the $12 reprint old issue cost and get a copy.

Maker Updates

Historical maker and instrument researchers will find a huge amount of new entries - both in the Encyclopedia and the many Galleries. Literally dozens of new makers and - oh, I don't know - over 100 new specimens? Unfortunately, it will take me awhile to even identify all the updates - these are maybe a third of the 200 Excel line items I've been trying to catch up over the last 2+ years (I showed some of the more interesting things at last year's Gathering). The discoveries continue to appear endless. LOTS more to come. Meanwhile, poke around and find all sorts of interesting new things....

Foundation donors

I'm starting this new thread to list those who contribute to the Foundation. Some may be past or future HG.net Forum users as before, some are just being generous to our cause, and this is a public thank you.
Since the mass email announcement this week, we have inspired a few old and new folks, including:

Muriel Anderson (who needs no introduction)
Chris Bucklen (so excited he forgot he has just done it a couple months ago)
Ken Bonfield (a fine 6-string and bari player who STILL doesn't own an HG, but supports our work here...ps: he's an old East Coast buddy of Frank Doucette)
Erik Hofmann, from France, who has built a couple modern theorboed guitars whilst simultaneously restoring antique gutiars and researching guitar history (with new book in the works)

Veronica Merryfield (a builder who is still in the brainstorming stage for her first HG. I met her up at the GAL convention in 2006 where she (and Jason from the Fretboard Journal) kindly helped me set up my HG exhibit.)

My CD "Not A Planet" is nominated at the WCMA's

Hey will miss y'all at the Gathering this year. Rats I was going to appear as the Caped Harpman !!!
Just a note let friends know that my current CD "Not A Planet" is nominated for "Instrumental CD of the Year" at the upcoming Western Canadian Music Awards Sept 20. Why am I tell you this becuase one of the songs on the CD is a Harp Guitar tune. So wish me luck Ill let you know the results.

Birth of HarpGuitar Healdsburg California

Hi Guys,

Here is my last attempt in somewhat 'traditional' HG. It calls Healdsburg California and it has:
sitka spruce top
ovenkol B&S
Maple neck and heads with macassar ebony head plates
EIR fingerboard and bridge
ovenkol tailpiece
Purpleheart binding and white/blue purfling
acrylic and MOP inlays
Two side holes with caps
adustable neck
Steel strings for the neck
and Nylon for the Subs

It is the 3rd instrument model of the Healdsburg serial (1 guitar, 1pilar HG and 1 hollow harm HG)
I can now go back to more unconventional Musical '6-strings-on-the-neck-with-other-stuff' instruments. i.e. I am starting a double neck slide baryton harpSympithar. No less than 6 month of job. and It's an order (yes there are crazy guys in france too!!!)

I'll present the healdsburg serial at ballainvillier 'France' this fall september.
