Ben, is $4500 too much to pay for a 1915 Dyer? Just wondering...

Good question,

I think thta's the max you have to pay for a PERFECT CONDITION one, the thing is that is his starting bid, he think he can get 8000 for it... Too bad. He should have started at 2500...

Cheers

Yes, Brad - I think the Dyer is more than fair at 5k - even though it's just a Style 4, it is by far in the best possible condition you can find one in.  Seller is a professional musician in Northern Cal, and doesn't need to sell it unless he gets "top dollar."  I really wanted it for an HGM listing.

What about the 7000 USD Knutsen?

You know, I really don't think 2900 is too much to ask for my Knutsen.  Call me greedy or whatever you want, but I had over 40 people watching it at that price, and it wasn't that it didn't sell, I ended the listing early to sell it to a friend for less than what I was asking on ebay.  Thanks for the input anyway though.

Drew, does this mean no Knutsen in the Schrammel quartette project?

Did you ever record with it?

Dear Drew:

Yours at 2900 was ok (if you see my original post I did no comments on yours) sorry that in the same post you where involved with the other 2 guys... the problem was the other guy who trys to get 7000 for a his. Actualy now for the firt time he have it with a buy it now under 4K... But stile quite expensive in my opinion...

The Larson was realy cool but I'm suspecting him to have a a BIG reserve price. It's Ok to want the right price for a guitar but the RIGHT price anyway not the right price time 2.

Yes the Dyer's reserve was 7600, way too much, it would be a good deal for anything under 5K though.  And about the schrammel project, I have an actual schrammel guitar Im using for that. : )

And don't worry about the Knutsen being for sale, I wouldn't be getting rid of it if I didn't have something great in mind as a replacement.

Oh and if your asking about any recording period on the Knutsen, yes I've done some.  Also we have a youtube video project for a class assignment that I'll have up soon.  I'll either be playing the Knutsen or I was going to possibly do the video on a style 8 Dyer this weekend.  We'll see.  I'll be sure to link the video when it's done.

The second one is very nice. But....the double cut away on the right in your window grabbed my attention, although I can't tell much about it.

Darrell, I saw the harp mando yesterday, and all the other *things* he had. Then there was this comment "The seller misrepresented this piece of junk for a guitar...". When this guy gets negative feedback, it REALLY negative!

Ben...you've got mail.

The "50% off" Knutsen is back again... So we have now "The return of the son of the revenge of Knutsen".

Someone was asking about kontragitarres, the one you should buy are like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.de/13-saitige-Kontragitarre-von-Franz-Angerer_W0QQitemZ150095820239QQihZ005QQcategoryZ21591QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Usualy they are the best sounding, and with 7 basses you can go chromaatic or diatonic. The price is right too.

Cheers

Hey Ben !

How Right you are- looks similar to the one I bought from you

(Just not quite as nice !!!)

Being a nylon-string player as well as steel-string, I'm really loving it.

Thanks again for such a beautiful instrument !

Best, from Eric in San Fran, CA...

Hello everyone,

I've just posted a harp guitar for sale on eBay!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200086693531

Well... it's not exactly a Dyer, but it does have 2 floating treble strings on the bass side! It's a Portuguese viola beiroa, which is an ancestor of the Brazilian viola caipira. (Some may know that Stephen Sedgwick is building a harp guitar version of the viola capira for me which I hope to have in hand by HGG5. See: http://www.harpguitars.net/luthiers/hoyt/avc1.htm)

I plan on writing an article for Gregg regarding the viola beiroa's history at some point this year that will delve in to the origins of this peculiar instrument.

Anyway, I'm starting it at $299, I paid about $389 for it about 6 months ago and played it some. It needs new tuners since the originals are not very good at all. If you can get new tuners on this thing, I think it would play great! The reason I didn't buy new tuners for it is because I'm getting another one made for me that will feature a Portuguese tuning head and the bizarre "ray mouth" sound hole. (It's called a ray mouth sound hole because it resembles the face of a stingray)

Hope someone wants it. The funds will be going towards the new one...

What the heck are these things:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170079827521&rd=1&rd=1

Square neck, hollow (?) arm... A German(?) equiv. to a Greenfield Hawaiian Guitar - i.e. Type A, Pseudo Harp Steel? Don't know how they're played; obviously not tuned the same way... Any German speakers able to help?

Lotsa funky e-lyre stuff in their store too... Along with this Electric Banana Harp (?) Cittern (??):

Hi all
I just found this thing on eBay

http://cgi.ebay.com/Wishnevsky-Left-Handed-Harp-Guitar-All-Mahogany_W0QQitemZ150108779320QQcategoryZ4713QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I looked up Wishnevsky, it seems he makes oddball guitars of Any stripe, including Harp Guitars. He might be a source for low end Harp Guitars. He quotes " $50 a string" Anybody ever seen one?

His site is:

http://www.wishnevsky.com/unusuals.htm

I have not seen him mentioned on this forum before.

Neal
