Hi all,

I just played an open-air restaurant gig here in Gran Canaria to quite an international and very mixed aged crowd. After I had been playing for 10 mins an elderly Swedish gentleman came up to me and asked if I could play anything by someone called Evert Taube.  I had to say sorry but I had never heard of him.  The gentleman said "oh you must listen to him - he is Sweden's most famous guitarist ever - he plays an 8 string guitar" and he wrote down the name on a napkin.

I later got chatting to a younger (50s) Danish couple and showed them the name.  They both groaned and said not to bother - "its pure s***"

I just got home and googled him and was surprised to find him playing this.  Forgive my ignorance but I'm sure you will have catalogued this instrument somewhere here Greg?

Thanks for the link and news, Jon!  A new name to me.  Too bad neither his playback or live plucking includes subs...
Yes, well cataloged - a common Scholander lute (Nordic lute, "false Swedish lute").  Many here in the Hybrids ("not quite harp guitars") Gallery: http://www.harpguitars.net/history/org/org-hybrids.htm (way down the page).
Many players here: http://www.harpguitars.net/iconography/icon-relatives.htm
