Welcome new Supporting Donation member Aluisio Laurindo da Silva from Rio de Janeiro, who is "working on the preparation of my masters degree dissertation project. The research is about original music for harp guitar, kontraguitarre, extra-bass guitars and performance on the 13-strings guitar."
Sounds fantastic, Aluisio!

Two new members! Demian Rodriguez Ferrandez, who hopes to make a harp guitar, and Jeff Comas, who hopes to buy his first.  Also, Kevin Keys made "another donation to the cause."  Thanks for your support!

Graham McDonald, a mandolin builder in Australia, has just moved up to the Patron level. He was inspired from the resources I (and HG.net) continue to provide (he is hard at work on his next mandolin building book, which will have an extensive - ie: the largest to date - section on mandolin history, including harp mandolins). Thanks, Graham!

Everyone here knows Michael Schreiner, I assume?
Forum user, Gibson re-builder, Sullivan-Elliott re-designer, and all-around gentleman.
Did you know he's been quietly making monthly donations to our non-profit?
It's called "pay as you go" or "give 'til it hurts" - either way, Michael has been disciplined and generous to a fault.
Today he moved into our Benefactor level on the Donors page!
He joins such illustrious company as Nancy Conescu, Ed Littlefield, Jr., Franco Ghisalberti, Charlie Hill, Alan Carruth and Pete Bradshaw.
Who will be next to support our harp guitar work on the "installment plan"...?
Thanks, Michael!!!

New Supporting Member Aljosha Elsensohn joins our growing group - he's a "hobbyist luthier" in Austria who plays guitar and bass.

I see I am much behind in welcoming new donors and thanking those with recent donations.
We first welcome first time supporters and patrons J. B. Davies, Terry Ferster, Larry Elfenbein and Andrew Wright.  Thanks for your interest and support!

Also several generous new donations after HGG10 (when inspiration often strikes!) from:
Jon Pickard
Charles Biggar
Charlie Hill
Hiro Takai
Ed & Sally Dowling
Paul Price
Chuck Thompson
Dan Pease & Bettie Swarts
Florence Berrien
Stephen & Nancy Bennett

As always, "*" are added after each name denoting successive donations over the years.

Thanks, folks!

I'm sure everyone has seen the blog on our current Matching Grant fundraiser.
As mentioned, I'm updated the progress and listing those special individuals who are helping us out on the Donor page.  Special thanks go out today to Pete Bradshaw, now a multi-benefactor.
I'm hoping Pete helps inspire some of our many old and recent friends listed on the Past Donors list.
Thanks, everyone!

I assume everyone's seen the list of folks who've joined or donated during our last Fundraiser.

Today, member John Riley (proud owner & restorer of one of the Coulter HGs) became a Lifetime Patron.
Thanks, John!

2 new lifetime patrons have joined us (both fresh from attending HGG11)!
Michael Hess from Germany, who played his kontragitarre for us (he attended with his wife Elizabeth and daughter Nadja) and Alex Anderson, who bought the 2nd US-made Holloway Dyer style 8 copy (built 100% by Scott).
Meanwhile, our dear friend Hiro Takai sent another donation to honor the Gathering and dedicated to all of us from HGG10.  This moves him up to Sponsor level.
Much appreciated, gentlemen!  Thanks for your passion and commitment to the cause!

Another (second) patron donation just came in from Joseph Conklin.  Joseph owns a 21-string Sedgwick and is putting it to very good use on YouTube (search on his name).
Thanks for your support!

2-1/2 days left of 2013, everybody...last chance to improve your tax situation!
That may or may not be what prompted 2 generous Patron donations just now...
Blair Johnson of Canada (his 2nd donation), who is building a new harp guitar under the tutelage of Tony Karol (you can see progress on his Facebook), and newcomer (who's already been to 2 Gatherings) Steve Silva (old friend of Frank Doucette's).
Thanks, gentlemen!

And with just a few hours left, Ed & Sally Dowling make a very generous 2013 donation.  They are now HGF Benefactors!

Generous patron-level donations starting off the year come from Blair Johnson (building his first killer HG under the guidance of Tony Karol) and Michael Schreiner.
The amazing thing is...these guys are already Patrons or Benefactors!  So a rare breed indeed that continues to contribute well beyond the call of duty...
Meanwhile, my blog and Facebook attempts at inspiring the masses for even a small token seems to be falling on deaf ears (at least they "like" something about my efforts).
So, thank you, gentlemen!

I apologize for not keeping up with donations.  I hereby welcome:
  • Ian Watchorn (helping me with my Petzval/Scherzer research)
  • Bob Lodge (Tom Shinness fan, hopes to get a harp guitar one day)
  • Kevin Keys (renewal)
  • Jan Topolski
  • Sean Woolley (renewal)
  • Julien Heurtebise (French singer/HG-ist)
  • Nigel Forster (who I helped with some Howe-Orme mandolin research
  • Tony Barnard (U.K. all-styles player anxiously awaiting a new 21-string Sedgwick)

Thanks, all!

Michael Simmons (of Fretboard Journal fame) has contributed and supported me so much over the years, I almost forgot he's never been a member.  Now he is, with a lifetime Patron donation.  He spreads the word to all the FJ Facebook friends on pretty much all of my blogs, and the depressing majority of ultra-lame comments aside, he IS spreading the word.  He's an amazing guy and a fretted instrument national treasure.  Most importantly, his wit far surpasses my own and keeps all this fun!
PS: I'm highly anticipating his upcoming book for Tony Bacon productions on the history of modern lutherie!
Thanks, Michael!

Once again I find myself remiss in not thanking new donors and renewing members in a timely manner.  In the last 5 months, Supporting donations have come in from new members:
Charles Davis, Dan Schwartz, David Cowgill, Dean Gitter, Richard Harris, James Heinl, John Sahlin, Michael Bohrer, with an anonymous Benefactor gift from a newcomer to the harp guitar world.

Recent membership renewals and/or level upgrades: Jon Pickard, Thomas Nielsen and Tony Barnard.

Thanks also to my parents and the Bennetts for additional significant donor gifts.

Welcome, and thank you all for your support!

Thanks to David Wade for a Patron donation this week!
David is to the Classic Banjo what I am to the Harp Guitar.  He says he's commissioned his first harp guitar however!

Our summer matching grant drive, while not a complete success (we were going for $10,000), it was our best yet!  $7155 received in total - from these fine folks: http://www.harpguitars.net/hgf/hgf_donors.htm

Several new Foundation donors (and thus Harpguitars.net members) recently...
After the fundraiser closed, we received generous donations from Kevin Keys and David Boyd.
Converts from HGG13 include John & Dana Riley and Noah Altritt.
And just today, new supporting donations from James Landman and Hynek Stancik.
Thank you all, and welcome to our world!

I often get a couple last minute donations on December 31st (tax credits!) - this year, generous extra Patron donations from Jeff Titus and the Dowlings (Ed & Sally).  Thank you!
Also a renewal from Julien Plaquevent from France, and newbie Andrew Harrison - from Cape Town, South Africa!  He has already built a beautiful 6-string in a course with Casimi Guitars of Cape Town, and next up is an HG.
Welcome!
