For all who have asked and/or missed the announcement before last Sunday's concert:
Next year's location: Idaho!
Hosts: Dave and Tone Powell!
Date: TBD, but late Sept to late Oct.

Confident that my current cardiac issues are a temporary inconvenience, it's on the calendar.

What a beautiful location. Googling SandPoint.

hey Guys, figured I'd chime in here.  We did find a location in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho (equally as beautiful as Sandpoint, but closer to airport) to host this year's Harp Guitar Gathering 12, and we have the hotel booked.

Coeur d'Alene Inn Best Western
506 W Appleway Ave,
Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814

(800) 780-7234

Hey gang - Registration is now open! http://www.harpguitars.net/hgg/hgg.htm

Sorry for the delay; we were working on options for Sunday night closing party, and also word from Alex de Grassi, who's booked to come debut his first arrangements/tunes on his Holloway harp guitar!

Details on the rest of the weekend coming soon.

Greetings again from SW Kansas!

Been a while since I last posted, so here is a bit of an update. Alas, but the heart issues I've been dealing with are continuing much longer than I thought they would and I'll likely not make HGG12 either. 2015 is now the target. Evidently, the small number of available donor hearts has a greater effect on the timeline than earlier believed, but I remain confident that the transplant will happen. And I'd much rather come repaired, recuperated, and re-energized to enjoy it to the fullest. Sadly I will also miss the Swannanoa Gathering this year as well.

The good news is - I did find and acquire a style 5 Holloway harp guitar and the journey has begun. I gleefully relieved Joe Conklin of Kansas City, MO. (where I doctor) of his Holloway, thus making room for him to acquire his new Emerald Synergy 18-string, Alistair's first (and I might add successful) build with super trebles. Joe also has a beautiful 21-string by Stephen Sedgwick in Cocobolo. Joe dropped the Holloway off to Mass Street Music where I had a little setup work done and a K&K pickup installed. I've had it since March. Took some time to acclimate to the 1 7/8 nut width and string spacing after being used to the 1 25/32 on my Goodall parlor but I finally have my first piece about up to performance level and plan on debuting it next weekend (6/1) in Garden City, Ks. Kept it simple to begin with doing "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You". Gotta start somewhere. A little Elvis will work. :-)

Here is a photo taken at the hotel in KCMO, when Joe brought it over for me to try.

Looking forward to again being healthy and meeting you all eventually. Until then.....be well and play well.

Congrats on the Holloway, Don (I predict Joe will eventually regret it...).
Good luck on the old ticker, and hope to meet you sooner than later!

I can attest that Ben will entertain you on the drive with a stream of bizarre and charming jokes - well worth the cost.

Well, I figured I'd pop in and see if my login still works, and it did. The down side is, it's not looking good for me to make the trip. I'm hosting a house concert for Tim and Myles Thompson October 2nd, and they usually overnight with us. Which would mean I'd have to kick them out bright and early Friday to catch a flight up. But who knows, we've been know to do crazier things just to make it to a gathering. [biggrin]

Dennis, bring 'em along! Tim and Myles pack light and can always use new material for their act... [wink]
Would love to hear what they'd come up with all those extra harp strings. hehe [rofl]

Hey Luthiers, please let me know if you are planning on attending the convention this year and have something to present for the Luthier panel.  Tony will be hosting the panel but you can contact either of us.  Thanks!

Just checking to see if there might be anyone from the Denver/Cheyenne area that is planning on going to HGG12. I'm hoping to make my first gathering with my harp guitar arriving in the next week or so. Looking for a second driver who could share expenses and driving for the 14 1/2 hour trip from my Loveland, CO starting point.

Thanks!

Hey all - just a note that I will not be bringing an strings to HGG12.  If you need any, best to order asap.
Also - Dave Powell is asking for anyone who can bring harp guitar stands to please do so.

Re-posting this in the correct topic this time:

Hey Guys and Gals, thanks for attending this years Gathering, Tone and I had such a marvelous time hosting and I hope we can do it again.  The venue and hotel both were thrilled to work with us and expressed interest in having us back, so hopefully we can continue spreading the harp guitar gospel to the world!  Thanks again and we look forward to seeing everyone again in North Carolina next year!!!  Cheers

Personally, it was my most "relaxed" Gathering ever - thanks to the Powells.  Dave really had so much covered, and they were both so dang mellow through it all!
While it was our biggest public Saturday night concert turn-out in some time (again, thanks to the boys), I was somewhat disappointed that some of our regulars didn't make it this year and extremely few of the many dozen new players and builders out there didn't make the pilgrimage.
(Hey, I know you're out there...we correspond, I see you on FB, I see so many instruments being built, sold, played.  The Gathering is for you!)
We had a blast, as always.  And the few "newbies" who attended, including feature Jon Mendle, again said it was the best guitar festival they've ever been to.
Which is why we keep doing it, and growing this family.
See you next year!
