As announced at the end of HGG7, we have tapped Brad Hoyt to host HGG8 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The dates have now been chosen: November 12-13-14, 2010.
Brad's found a great place to hold the event, and details and deal memo will be worked out before long, then posted here.

Just a heads up, as some were checking into airports:
We are currently choosing between 3 locations, one of which is Ball State University in Muncie, IN.  We are requesting the same weekend from all venues, but unfortunately, until we get a contract in place, we can't guarantee anything.  We'll let you know asap!

Hey Everybody.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I should have a venue finalized for HGG8 at some point over the next 2-4 weeks.

If you're flying in, I highly recommend that you fly to Indianapolis International Airport. You may be tempted to fly into Chicago if it's a little cheaper but it takes 3 1/2 hours to drive from Chicago to Indianapolis and 4 hours 45 minutes to drive from Chicago to Muncie. The cost in gas alone would probably negate whatever savings you might get plus there's a lot more driving time involved.

Anyway - keep checking this thread for the final update on the venue. I'll have new information soon!

Thanks,
-Brad

Lookin' forward to it Brad. I spoke with Andy Wahlberg, Stacy Hobbs and Duane Noble at the Newport guitar show. Can't wait for the whole crowd to get together again and meet some new folks too.

Duane has birthed a new Rosewood Harp guitar that is truly awesome! That Duane and wife are really good people.

Brad, I realize this maybe farther out then you're looking for however...
The wife and I are going to be staying at the Courtyard Marriott, 7220 Woodland Drive, Indianapolis IN 46278
Website http://www.schahethotels.com/holiday-inn-indianapolis-northwest-hotel in August for the MotoGP race.
The group we're with has taken over both it and the Holiday Inn Express next to it.
I do not know if it is suitable to the Harp Guitar Gathering's needs but give Amber a call and see what she has to say. If it's not suitable she maybe able to suggest something else that is better for our group. We found her excellent to deal with two years ago when she worked for another hotel chain.
Tell her she was recommended to you by Linda and Stephen Warburton from Ontario Canada based on her excellent work with the Ducati clubs.

Hey Stephen,

Thanks for the referral! I checked the location. It looks like it's about a 20-25 minute drive to the Athenaeum. I'll see what she has to say. I'm also going to check out four other places next weekend as well. Hopefully I'll have something in place in the next 3-4 weeks.

Hey Bruce,

I haven't played there but I'll be checking their sound system out and doing sound checks well before the event. It's a pretty big place. We'll try and make sure that most performers play using microphones with as few exceptions as possible to ensure a smooth transition between the many performers that will be there.

I'm glad you and Cindy are planning on coming!

-Brad

We've just opened a new Merchant Account for the Foundation.  We can now accept VISA or MasterCard directly for Gathering registration.

So Brad, do I need to rent a car or will the shuttle take me to and from the airport and all events?

Hi Michael,

This time around, you have the option to not rent a car if you don't want to. A shuttle can take you to and from the airport. Then on Saturday before the event starts, shuttles will be going from the hotel to the venue. Then there will be a shuttle service that will go from the venue back to the hotel on Saturday night after the concert ends. Then on Sunday, there will be a shuttle service to and from the venue before and after the afternoon concert (The Sunday morning events will happen on a couple large ballrooms at the hotel).

Attention all who are planning on attending HGG8!:

I wanted to share with you a couple things regarding hotel reservations:

Regarding the hotel rates - The discounted hotel rate of $80.73 that we have for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night has been extended. You can now stay Wednesday, Thursday and Monday night with the same rate. This will be convenient for people who may want to come a day or two early or who'd want to leave a day later.

Also - The hotel has set a cut off date for reservations at October 13th. This means that the special rate will only be in effect until this date. Now they have told me that they may have the flexibility to move that date closer to the event. Still, I'd highly recommend getting your reservations in by Oct. 13th.

I'll post any new pertinent information as I get it.

See you there!

Hey Brad,
Thanks for talking to the hotel about extending the nights for the discounted rate.  Those of us who come early and stay late will be glad to keep a few extra bucks in our pockets.

Look forward to seeing everyone in November.

To paraphrase the lyrics from that well known Temptations tune...
Get ready 'cause here we come!
His popeness has given us his blessing and the Radisson Hotel Indianapolis Airport have a room set aside.
Yes, we're coming to HGG8!

Vickie and I have made our reservations. We had a great time last year and look forward to seeing everyone again this year. The only thing wrong last year was the way the weekend went by so fast so we decided to take advantage of the extended days too. Thanks Brad, what a great idea!

Well;
I'll be there.  Unfortunately only from late friday night to midmorning on Sunday.  I could not free up anymore time than that.  Good news is that I'll be driving which means no checking instruments.  Thus I will be bringing my Hewett AND the Tonedevil "mini-me" for anyone who wants to try their hand at a modern harp mandolin.  Looking forward to seeing everyone soon. Safe travels to all and may your instruments arrive in one piece.

Hey everyone,

I'm here to give you an update on how things are going with Harp Guitar Gathering 8. Here's some highlights:

* Volunteers from the Butler Recording Industry Club will be helping with the audio/video production for the entire event. The quality of the video, and especially the audio,  will be excellent.

* I'm performing on average of twice a week leading up to the event and I'm promoting HGG8 at my shows. Last weekend, I performed at the Carmel Arts Festival - over 100 fliers were picked up by people throughout the day. (A couple days later, I got a call to perform at the brand new massive Palladium Theatre in Carmel (Check it out!) on Dec. 7th but that's another story!) I hope to spread the word at the Carmel Library and the Indiana State Museum over the next couple weeks...

* Last Saturday, I went to the Eric Johnson / Andy McKee / Peppino D'Agostino concert at Clowes Hall in Indianapolis. Before Andy played a tune on his new Greenfield harp guitar, he told everyone about the Harp Guitar Gathering and gave the date and venue info. Very cool considering that over 1400 people were in attendance! I also handed out a few fliers. At the end of the day, over 300 were either passed out or taken.  That was pretty cool thing for Andy to do.

* This week I'll be posting fliers and posters in music stores, book stores and coffee shops. I'm also scheduling a sound check/lighting check/video check at the Athanaeum which should be in about 3 weeks. I'm also sending press releases to newspapers, radio and television stations.

The flier below is an approx. 5x8 flier that was handed out at the concert yesterday.

I look forward to seeing everyone at HGG8 this year!

More to come...
