Just wanted to make sure everyone saw my blog note about our venue change.  Same area, same dates.
Rumors are that the hotel will have lots of business for fall leaves tourists, weddings, etc., so make your plans and bookings early.  We'll have Registration and rates up sometime in March.

DATELINE: URGENT

To all Harp Guitar Gathering Attendees

6-22-11 Hotel Room update: The Hilton Garden Inn Hotel is filling up fast

RESERVE YOUR ROOM NOW SO YOU DON’T MISS OUT!

When booking your room, use the group code:  HGF

Hey gang, just a heads up.  The hotel tells us that the NON-Gathering rooms are nearly filled.   Our minimum block of rooms reserved for us is about half-filled, and when filled, there will likely be none left for the overflow.  Ergo, I'd highly recommend booking ASAP.

YALE TRIP

We're planning a trip to Yale University on Thursday, Oct 6, the day before the festivities start.

In the morning, we will be in the Medical Dept, X-raying harp guitars with John Thomas.  Time (and body count) will be fairly limited, but we are hoping for an additional harp guitar or two - if you have an original Gibson or other vintage instrument, please contact me.  Sorry, first come first served.

In the afternoon, we are going to visit the Yale Collection of Musical Instruments.  Public hours are from 1-4.  I would highly recommend that any and all historic guitar, keyboard, etc. aficianados join us (it is an important collection).   Additionally, I have a tentative agreement for a small private tour of their behind-the-scenes holdings.  Number of persons TBD, and I have no idea how many more we can squeeze in.  So again, space is at a premium unfortunately (contact me about waiting list).

If you don't want to add the cost of a long distance phone call to the price of your hotel room, you can book online at the hotel's website at http://hiltongardeninn.hilton.com/en/gi/hotels/index.jhtml?moreDesc=true&ctyhocn=MIFGIGI .  Where it allows you to put in a group code (and be sure to use group code and not one of the other options) enter HGF.  That will bring up rooms at our event rates.  I found this to be quick and easy and the receipt from booking online provides a record of taxes added to the room cost.

I'll be there by the Wednesday night before the event.  Anyone else showing up early?

I need a roommate. I booked a room with 2 queen size beds for Fri, Sat & Sun (Oct 7, 8, & 9). A room with 2 beds plus all the taxes for 3 nights is $399.84. I would like to split that with someone. I will also be renting a car and you would have that transportation advantage (I will pay the car rental). Please contact me soon at platm@bellsouth.net or 305-484-0377 in Miami. Gregg, do you have anyone in mind?

No, Michael - not offhand.
Good idea, though.  The 2 queen's cost just a bit mroe than 1 king, but allow roommates.  This is the place to ask.
I'll point to this thread in a blog as well.

WHAT? Dennis we will miss you! I am sorry you can't make it this year. I know you had a new HG in the works and I hoped to see it. Oh well, I guess you have a year to finish it up now. I hope we have plenty of luthiers coming. I have built 11 instruments in the last couple of years (only 1 HG) but building is just a hobby/artsy thing for me.  I am in awe and have deep respect for the luthiers that do regularly share with us.

Hi, This is Chuck Thompson and I just booked my flight. I am committed now. Actually I was committed at various other places but that's another story.

I haven't booked my room and wondered if anyone else was in the same situation. I would be glad to book one and share or share with someone if they have already booked one. I'll even sleep on the floor. I don't think we will be in the rooms much anyway.

Cheers,
Chuck

Next question: anyone arriving into Hartford on Thursday evening?  If so, would you have room to bring along our featured guest James Kline as well?  He's scheduled to arrive at 8 pm.

We also need to get him back there on Monday late afternoon as well for a 7:15 flight.

We can kick in gas money as needed.

Please contact me directly - thanks!

OK, we're working on a plan to make the Gathering. Not sure if it will include the new HG, but it is finished and I'm pretty happy with the sound. As of now SWA is pretty heavily booked for flights in and out of Hartford. So maybe Newark, I'll know more tomorrow. It will be a non- rev flight, so it could get tricky.
And thanks for the kind words Michael, keep your fingers crossed!

For those flying into Hartford who get stuck without a ride:

Connecticut Limo ctlimo.com 1-800-472-LIMO (5466) or (203) 974-4700 runs a shuttle service from Hartford airport to the Howard Johnson Hotel, which is about 2 miles from Hilton Garden Inn.  Per Arial at the Hilton Garden Inn, what most people do is take the shuttle from Hartford to the Howard Johnson, then call the Hilton Garden Inn which then sends a local shuttle to pick up at the Howard Johnson.  He also suggests booking 48 to 72 hours in advance which may not be possible for this go-round.  He says the web site is the way to go, but we couldn't figure it out. And it's probably not cheap.

I had a great time at the gathering this year. All was perfect until we missed the airport exit while discussing the merits of Stephen's bass tuning verses standard. We had a great laugh about that and still made our flight on time.
