Mario is our Player of the Month as part of the festivities.

Three years in the making, this 4-part feature (2 parts of which are for Members Only) is my most ambitious yet.  Everything we currently know about Maccaferri's harp guitars and playing of same.

Excellent feature Gregg! I love Maccaferri steel string guitars and my main 6 string is a Maccaferri copy....  I'm curious.... has anyone on this forum ever had a chance to play a Maccaferri nylon strung guitar or harp guitar? I've always been curious about what the nylon strung Maccaferri's sound like when compared with a standard classical. The tonal difference between the Maccaferri/Selmer steel strung guitars and a regular flat top are obvious... I wonder if there is the same kind of tonal difference with the nylon strung versions....

Good question, Brad.  As I mention in the piece, I didn't get a chance to play Jim Forderer's type 5 Macc when I had it in my hands (I was that busy)...aargh!
Why don't we pose the question to new member Jeff Doctorow, who owns one of the extremely few type 6 instruments?  It does have the D soundhole and baffle.

On the Players page, Maccaferri is once again re-featured.  I for one am never less than fascinated by the man and his works.

Don't forget that 2 of Mario Maccaferri's recordings are featured in the companion cd to the Mozzani book: Feste Lariane and Mazurka (I think that doubles one catalog of available recordings)
