In all the excitement, I forgot to formally announce the second brand new release from Harp Guitar Music.  Hot off the press!

Christmas Past: Holiday Harp Guitar Classics

A wonderful & noteworthy compilation (if I do say so myself)....

Hi People.

Joe Morgan released a CD not so long ago called 'On Their Best Behavior' with one of my harp guitars playing on it. Another new CD with one of my harp guitars on it is 'Spring Will Come', by Karen Ashbrook with husband Paul Oorts playing harp guitar. There are 3 tracks out of the 14 that have harp guitar and the music is Belgian, Celtic, French and Jewish. It is coming out in a couple of weeks and I got my copy today because they were visiting.

Thanks for the reminder Steve.

Joe's CD is stocked at HGM (as it has 5 HG tunes). I'm sure he'll bring them tothe Gathering as well.

Where can we check out the Paul Oorts tunes you mention?

Glad to hear Karen and Paul got the new cd wrapped up.  I'm sure it will be listed on http://www.karenashbrook.com when it's available.  Paul is a great player and I'm looking forward to hearing what he's done with his new harp guitar.  I tried to get him to come to HGGIV, but he's got a recording session scheduled for that weekend.  Maybe next year.

Howdy folks, If anyone is looking for gift ideas for the holiday season that's upon us, you might want to check out the new "Christmas Past" compilation cd on Harp Guitar Music.  It's a great selection of Christmas tunes played by some of the best harp guitarists on the planet.  I've been listening to it in the car for a few days and it just keeps getting better.  I'm sure many of you picked up a few copies in Naples, like I did.  If not, I bet Gregg would be glad to drop some in the mail to you.  Click the link at the top of the page for all the details.

No financial interest for me.  Just trying to spread the word about a fine cd.

Thanks for the plug Joe! Your kickback will be in the mail. Just kidding.
I have to say I think I did a great job also. Nice to hear these old chestnuts in a new setting, and the result may be greater than the sum of its parts. Even if only = to the sum, this is a treasure.
Don't forget quantity discounts on all HGM releases:
http://www.harpguitarmusic.com/orders.htm
And if all goes well, I'll have Muriel's first Christmas CD (with mostly HG!) available any week now!

I just received Muriel's brand new Christmas CD...now in stock at Harp Guitar Music!
It comes with a cool wooden ornament of her Doolin HG (so how can you resist?).
Almost all solo harp guitar (Doolin's, plus a couple on the steel-string), with a 6-string piece (one of my favorite arrangements ever of Silent Night).
I highlighted a few favorites for sound samples...
http://www.harpguitarmusic.com/listings/listing_ma_xmas.htm
The price bumps shipping up to $2.95, so I'll include $1 cash back.  Or combine with other items if you can (like 3 free HGM titles with purchase of 10...)!

Also Guys - Don't forget for the musicians on your list:

Gregg's own 2 CD set of music- " A Christmas Collection".

It comes with wonderful, informative booklets to entertain  anyone with a fascination for stringed instruments.

I have also ordered these as gifts.  Many may know Gregg for his prowess as a historian ( albeit the "Harp Guitar Pope" !),  but it runs much deeper...

The arrangements are enjoyable to anyone with even a passing interest in music.  They also encompass a wide variety of styles (Due to the useage of the wide variety of instruments)  And keep in mind, this guy played all the instruments himself !
(Wonder what Freud would have said ?...) At the very least buy it for yourself !

But- Check out all the Christmas CDs on HGM.   I own them all, and they are all
very well done. Each artist has re-interpreted traditional music for their unique instruments and also imprinted their own styles (The part I enjoy the most).

I can't wait to hear Muriel's latest ! (already ordered from Gregg)

     Best,

          -Eric H.

For anyone interested, Pat Metheny brought out the Pikasso to use on track 2 of Metheny/Mehldau Quartet: "The Sound of Water."

Hopefully we will continue to see it being used....

Tim Bertsch (of those interesting YouTube videos) finally got his site going.  His new CD "Soul Resonance" has been added to the Music page listing (2 Knutsen cuts).

A new CD, but definitely not a "new player"...just in case anyone misses it, please note the message under the Historical Players section.

Hey Gregg,

I'm glad to see that this CD is finally available!

For those not in the know, and with all due respect to the great contemporary masters of the harp guitar, Pasquale Taraffo is perhaps the greatest harp guitar virtuoso ever.  If you love harp guitar, and why else would you be here, then this CD is a must have item.  I can't wait to get my copy!

Take care!

Yes, Steve - but I don't know how many to bring.  Perhaps a dozen Taraffos?  I'll also bring a couple copies each of any artists who aren't attending the Gathering.  Anyone with special requests (strings, books, CDs, etc) please let me know by private email - and we can settle up at the Gathering.
Thanks for your interest and support!

So, I was going to wash the car today. Linda joined me in her wheel chair to soak up the bright sun's last few fall rays. I decided to put some tunes on while we were both out-n-about. BIG, I mean HUGE mistake. I put in Andy Wahlberg's CD Memorabilia. There should be a disclaimer with this CD stating:
DO NOT operate any equipment, attempt to do any physical work or consume liquids while listening to the audio tracks contained on this Compact Disk.
This album is beyond funny. I couldn't do anything. I stood dumb struck in the garage holding my sides. I laughed so hard the tears were running down my legs! But, when the chickens in choppers showed up clucking Ride of the Valkyries I about had a coronary. Linda had set her coffee down on the wheel chair seat between her legs and was pounding on the wheel chair arms in hysterics when all of a sudden she let out a painful scream. She had been flailing around so much that she spilled her HOT coffee onto the seat of the wheel chair and thus on her most sensitive parts. I'm sorry, I know I'll pay for this in the after life but I laughed even harder at her. When she got up out of the chair on her crutches her light coloured slacks showed the tell tale signs of a women needing Depends. What a Kodak moment that was. But even if I had had a camera I was laughing so hard I couldn't have held it to snap the shot.
Andy, big thumbs up dude! I owe you for giving me one of the best laughs I've had since last weekend.

Stephen & Jim Bennett's Brothers CD has arrived!
Needless to say, great album.  Available at HGM, but I've only got a couple copies, and I think SB needs the sales more than I do to pay for his new Wingert HG!

Yep, ordered that one.   Also went ahead and ordered the Don Ross/Andy Mckee album.  Although it does not have harp guitar on it, it still is good listening.

I just heard through the grapevine that one of our favorite guitar (and harp guitar) collectors opened up his collection to a couple of guitarists (at least one very well known) who recorded an album of duets on a variety of cool instruments, including a piece using the Carlson Flying Dream and Linda Manzer's #2 Pikasso guitar.  I'll let you know about availability when I hear more.
