Ok,
I have been waiting for the plug but since it hasn't come I'll step up to the plate.

Brad released his Duets album several days ago and if you haven't purchased it yet you really should.  Not only is the music wonderful to listen to but it features a line up of impressive and familiar names.  I have been following this project for a while anticipating the final product and was most certainly not disappointed.  you will not be either.... promise.

Nate is definitely impatient...but we like that!  He's only been waiting - what, 3 years for this?
Brad Hoyt: Together Alone (duets with 10 harp guitarists!) is in stock. Sound clips will be up shortly.  For those who can't wait:

Robert Silverstein (formerly of 20th Century Guitar Magazine) has reviewed all 4 of the new HGM releases, now the top banner of his site Music Web Express 3000.  Following is a lengthy, revealing Interview with the label owner (that would be me).  Captions and a couple corrections will be added soon.

Gregg has already mentioned the Bennett release and the Anderson/Doan release.  I also wanted to add that Jason Carter's new album is also available as well as Andy Wahlberg's Beatles cd and John Doan's release of solo harp guitar recordings of his Wayfarer and Eire albums.  Lotta new stuff cooking!

Thanks Nate - HGM now has listed Muriel & John's duet CD, John's new solo CD, and Andy''s Beatles (in transit).

All 3 are "must-haves" - but you probably already knew that.

Haven't bought the album?
here are the top 12 reasons (in album order) to get it now...

1)Don Alder:  originally released with ensemble on Not of a Planet, this solo version has many new twists and turns.

2)Stephen Bennett: do I need to say more?  really?  Grandfather of modern harp guitar... respect!

3)Gregg Miner:  Harp mandolin duet with Michael Manring?  who comes up with these things?

4)Hirokatsu Takai:  For those of us who missed the HGG gathering, this is a look at Japan's heartfelt harpguitar music

5)James Kline:  I am a huge James Kline fan for many reasons.  be familiar with his material before meeting him in person next month!

6)Andy Wahlberg:  Hgg attendees are very familiar with Grandma Walhberg's stew that Andy serves so well.

7)Antoine Dufour: Ok so Andy Mckee got married and a had a kid.  Some people and their excuses!  Our newest candy rat jedi delivers a masterful "Noble" epic.  (Andy;  come back to the Dark Side; we have cookies....)

8)Brad Hoyt:  Isn't he a piano player?  I heard that he lost his sanity while putting the HGG together.  He locked himself in a closet with the AVC and would not come out until this song was done.  It will take some time to wrap your head around this gem!

9)Muriel Anderson: So how do you make a song written in 13/8 time "Killer?"  How about adding Dan Gottlieb on drums and playing it on a new 21 string Doolin instrument.

10)Dave Powell:  You may have heard of "The Driving of Year of the year Nail" but this one could be called "Year of the Driving Thumb!"  When Leo Kottke hears this one he will be ordering one of them Tonedevil harpguitars

11)Joachim Csaikl:  Two questions;  where has this guy been hiding and how does he do that on a Kontreguitar?  This was one of the album's highlights for me.

12)Philippe Fouquet:  He gets the Shredder award for this album!!!!

But wait... aren't there 13 songs on the album?
I didn't know that the Extraterrestrial played Harp guitar?
For the answer to these questions and more:

Hi People

German guitarist Simon Wahl's new album is out tomorrow. The YouTube trailer has snippets from the album and I think it best heard through headphones. The recording sounds amazing, fresh and very real.

There are 3 tracks with a Sedgwick harp guitar and there are another 7 tracks on a Sedgwick concert guitar.

  • Release: September 28th, 2011
  • Available in Europe for 12€ (free shipping)
  • Purchase by sending an e-mail to info@simonwahl.com
The CD works out about $16US, but I don't know if the 'free shipping' includes America! Can anyone guess the road Simon is crossing?

It is only 12 weeks until Christmas.
All the best

That's Abby Road in front of Apple Recording Studio that John Doan walked upon and thereby made famous while making "In Search of the Harp Guitar"

I always knew John would one day be more famous than the Beatles (or at least, that's what he assured me...).
Insert satiric emoticon here...(or not)

And congratulations, Simon - nice work.

I've got a rather interesting new CD in stock at Harp Guitar Music: the first album from the duo Profundkontra, featuring harp guitarist Emmerich Haimer.  Check it out!

warning: SELF PROMOTION

so november 2010 I went to the studio to begin recording my album.
I have finished recording 10 out of 12 songs.
I mixed two of them today to a almost finished product.
4 cover tunes the rest original.
looks like it will be available by hg10
mostly solo harp guitar with a few multi instrument pieces.
very exciting for me.

Nate.. Let me know when your CD is available for purchase. I enjoy your playing and I'd like to try to learn your arrangement of the Beatles tune (If it is ready BEFORE HG10).

So that would be "Here, There and Everywhere" in DADGAD, of course. I can see it now: "Bennett, Blaustein and Wahlberg play the Beatles." Nate, you're in good company.  I look forward to purchasing your CD when it comes out. Congrats.

this is great because my mom will only buy one and my wife would prefer if I did not have too many of them laying around the house!

btw the covers "here there and everywhere" and "alison" (elvis costello) are DADGAD no trebles while "Serenade" (Roschenger/Kline) and Bach's Minuet will be DADGAD with trebles...

a little something for everyone.
