Reply with quote | #5 | And another Members exclusive...I added a Harp Guitar Timeline of Significant Events This is something the Museum staff asked for for the exhibit next year, and it was quite a challenge (but fun!) putting it together. Turns out they probably won't use it, as it is too hard to turn into a giant graphic, and they were obviously hoping for a nice simple linear progression/development/evolution of the instrument and its use...which clearly was not the case - as this motley assortment of unrelated wacky inventors so eloquently illustrates!

Reply with quote | #6 | Frank Doucette dug up a couple of old guitar magazines whilst cleaning house, and we came up with a great new series:
the
Harp Guitar Time Capsule

Four wonderful "blast from the past"s: 2 under Players, 1 under Luthiers, and 1 HG of the Month. Enjoy!

Reply with quote | #10 | Thanks to hernia surgery and an almost 2-week recovery at home, I was able to catch up on about 5 months of backlogged HG.net submissions and discoveries - about 100 line items from my "To Do" spreadsheet. Including tons of new instruments, makers, iconography, players and luthiers. I'll post the specifics in the appropriate sections below shortly. Enjoy and thanks to all our many contributors! __________________ Gregg Miner, editor, Harpguitars.net |

July's Harp Guitar of the Month is my Hansen, and is titled This is a slightly expanded and updated version of my Winter Guitarmaker article, complete with corrections and missing footnotes. I still have a few copies of the magazine left, so feel free to pick up a souvenir besides enjoying the free online version... __________________ Gregg Miner, editor, Harpguitars.net |

Reply with quote | #15 | March 1, 2008: Our unprecedented Taraffo feature continues (yes, a bit more is coming) with something beyond monumental:
The Harp Guitars of Settimio Gazzo and Other Genoese Luthiers Even now, this incredible feature is likely nowhere near finished. For the past 3 months, my friend, collaborator and passionate archivist Franco Ghisalberti has sent scores of photos and stories from dozens of Genoese contacts he has personally wined and dined, and visited with camera in hand - to provide Harpguitars.net with an important area of harp guitar history (were there no 6-string guitars in Italy?) that would otherwise remain undisclosed to the world at large. Our community (and guitar and music communities far beyond) owe Franco a huge debt.
I also highlight one little sideline outcome of all this research in the March Harp Guitar of the Month (for which we are greatly indebted to the generosity of Alberto Giordano). __________________ Gregg Miner, editor, Harpguitars.net |

Reply with quote | #16 | Added to the Players section: 19 new contemporary players. The Historical players have been moved to their own page and greatly expanded. Combined Player, Luthier and HG of the Month is Albert Shutt and his Mando-Bass-Harp-Guitar.

Reply with quote | #20 | At the prodding of Benoît Meulle-Stef, I went and Googled "kontragitarre" Images. As he promised, there were endless pages of entries. I stopped after 30 pages or so and have not yet continued searching on other keywords! I knew the instrument was ubiquitous over there, but it seems like they have us beat. Perhaps, like Andreas David, others will think about attending a Gathering so that we meet more of
