Merchandise is finally up.  All HGG merchandise, past, present & future, has been moved to a new Harp Guitar Foundation Merchandise page.
If you missed picking up a shirt - or missed the Gathering completely (Fred!), now's your chance.  We are in the red a few hundred dollars on merchandise, so all purchases help!
We also finally have our generic all-purpose Foundation / Gathering fund-raiser -
Harp Guitar Boxer Shorts!
Don't be shy...operators standing by.

It will take me some time yet to go through all of Chuck's (and others') great photos and get a full HGG7 page up, but meanwhile, I added a link to a wonderful memorial page that Hiro has just finished.  THANK YOU, MR. HIRO!

PS: Patience with videos...Chuck is working on them.  Meanwhile, Ben posted 2 of his own.
Anyone else?  (don't forget to ask performer's permission)

Perhaps Mr. Hiro could help translating these articles?

Hey tone!

It's exciting that you're doing a 12-string with sub-basses.  Are the subs doubled (in octaves) like the basses on a standard 12?  I've been thinking about doing that for quite a while....I love the way that octave-doubling on the bass sounds.

I'm getting closer to finishing my latest (a commission for Todd Green), the Barikoto.  Having a heck of a time getting the details surrounding the 11-string treble harp/koto/gu zheng section all squared away, but if and when I do it will be cool.  I'm hoping for take-off in the next month or so, will let you know and try to get pictures up.
Meanwhile our 10-string cello is getting rave reviews from the few who have seen it in performance...I'd love to do more of those but like everything else....what a lot of work!!!

Keeps us out of trouble, eh??  Or just the opposite!

Darrell, that's a good idea about Hiro translating that article...I think I have his email address, as we corresponded a while back; I'll have to ask him.  Kind of a big project, but maybe he'd be into it.  Sorry I missed meeting him at the Gathering.

love,

Fred

Fred great to hear from you! i m so interested in that cello... that sounds so cool! i m sure it sounds great! i know how much work it is to make a violin family instrument! so yea we just tuned up the new 18 string harp guitar it sounds so great! need to lower the saddle just a bit is all, well and get a B-band pick-up in there. Dave has always totally Rocked' open C tuning on 12 string, so having the subs there too is really cool. they are 6 single sub bass strings. i never really thought it would be cool to have paired subs myself. stay tuned for some pix and some video samples!

Sounds fantastic Anthony!

As a 12-string (on the neck) player, I'm very excited to see and hear how this instrument works out. I've never seen (or even heard of) a 12-string neck Harp Guitar, now in the past few weeks I see two. Amazing!

Obviously, keep us up to date and please let us know about any unusual tension issues. (Always my biggest fear).

And I kind of agree about leaving the Harp strings single course. In fact I almost always play my 12-string guitars without the 12th string just to get the most bass sound out of the lowest plucked note.

Thanks and Good Luck!

yeah it seems to have the right amount of structural integrity to tension ratio, so far. the 12 string neck with the 6 subs is really awesome sounding. we have it tuned to open C on the neck then it goes down BAGFDC on the subs, so the D & C are a double octave below middle C.  there is alot of bass on this one... and they thought we were crazy to put a low D on there... but we went a step farther and added a lower C to this one. remarkably it seems to have decent rumble down there! stay tuned for the pix and samples! we are still getting used to the new axe!
